#MeToo

The reasons why I didn't want to write this post were the EXACT reasons why I needed to write this post. If you are on social media, you might see a lot of friends posting "Me Too". I'm pretty sure everyone knows by now what it means (but for those not on social media, here is the explanation): "If all the women who have been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote 'me too' as a status, we might give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem."

I hadn't planned on writing about this topic until I saw a post online about a friend being shamed for saying it: She was just wanting attention. If she didn't share the details of what happened, then that meant she was lying. Why hasn't she said anything earlier? I bet she's just posting it because all her friends are saying it and nothing even happened to her. Comments and questions like these are the reasons why more women DON'T speak up. So, to all my fellow brave friends who have posted it, I want you to know- Me too.

To the women who have had men tell you that they are "owed" something because they bought you a drink at a bar- Me too.

To the women who have been called ugly names after politely refusing a free drink at a bar- Me too.

To the women who have found an unwanted hand on their thigh- Me too.

To the women who have been told crude comments about their looks- Me too.

To the women who have been accused of leading a man on (only meaning you were polite and talked to them) and then called horrible names when you denied any advances- Me too.

To the women who have been told, "relax, it was just a joke"- Me too.

To the women who have been told that you aren't worth it- Me too.

To the women who have received unsolicited photos of body parts via text or social media- Me too.

To the women who have asked someone to stop and were ignored- Me too.

To the women who are told if you just dressed sexier, you could get a man- Me too.

To the women who are told that the way you dress just means you are asking for something like that to happen to you- Me too.

To the women who are asked "Well, how much did you drink? How do yo know that you didn't agree to it?"- Me too.

Just because someone admits they have been assaulted or harassed doesn't mean that they owe you any details or an explanation. Just know- it happens. It happens more than you think. It happens to more friends and family members than you think. It's not something we want to talk about. If we want to share details, we will. Don't try and fix us- we aren't necessarily broken. If you want to fix anything, find a way to fix how women are treated so it doesn't happen to someone else.

As always, I love you all.

XOXO.

What I'm Loving Wednesday- Birthday edition!

I'm loving..
That for the first time in almost A WEEK I'm finally updating my blog!

I'm loving...
All the birthday messages I've received today via Twitter, Facebook, email and texts. My friends and family sure do know how to make a gal feel special. My mom even called and sang "Happy Birthday" to me. :) Thank you so much, I love you all. I'm calling this the "Year of Nolan Ryan's jersey number". If you know baseball, I just gave away my age. If you don't, I'm going to lie and tell you I'm 25. ;) Sorry I couldn't post all of my messages, that would take way too long and it would make this post insanely long. :) I have read them all and do truly appreciate them!

Picture and message my sister Mary posted on my Facebook page. And for the record, ONLY my sister can call me Boog. :)
Even local businesses on Twitter know it's my birthday! ;) They sent me a coupon for a free meal!

I'm loving...
The birthday crown my sister Mary gave me. She told me to wear it at my desk, so I have been! ;)

Just call me "Your Majesty". :)

I'm loving...
My friends. Over the past few months I've hit some "blah" moments here and there, but my friends are always there to pick me up when I'm feeling down! Love y'all!!

Dinner with my baseball homegirls
Group picture of friends at dinner
Mis Amigas!
Getting birthday pedicures with one of my besties (hers was last weekend). I wish I had a good picture of the necklace she gave me. It's beautiful (her hubby helped pick it out- he did a good job!) :)
My friend Derek took me to Texas de Brazil last night (for an early birthday dinner). It was SO GOOD. I was a little pig. Make that a big pig. I ate so much. I love any place that lets me have all I can eat steak. The lamb was also good. As was the pork. And Brazilian sausage. And chicken. I'm getting hungry thinking about it.

I'm loving...
This sign my friend Donny got me. This is a phrase that I say a lot! :)
This pillow case that my friend Paula made me
This purse that my friend Martha made me.
I'm loving...
That my boss decorated my office area today.

My home away from home

I'm loving...
That I found an Audrey Hepburn movie I didn't own on sale at Barnes and Noble.

This is a great movie!
I'm loving...
This video of a father and daughter dancing. It's greatness!!

Hope everyone has a great day! One of these days I'm going to get back to my usual blogging updating/reading. I miss all of you!!

XOXO!

It's OK Thursday!

Its Ok Thursdays

It's OK...

...to discuss with friends on Twitter the hotness of Mark Paul Gosselaar.

#TeamZackMorris
...to kind of like the new Timeline layout of Facebook (even though the constant Facebook "upgrades" are super annoying). I like that I can go back and look at old status updates from a few years ago.

...to wonder how much mucus one person can have in their head. I have seriously gone through a box of Kleenex in the past 24 hours. Where does this all come from? Good grief!

...to think I look super cute in the new hat my nephew Danny got me for Christmas.

...to be living off the restaurant/fast food gift cards I got for Christmas because I'm too tired sick lazy to go grocery shopping.

...to wonder if I'm the only person who remember the show Danger Bay. It was a Canadian show but they aired it on the Disney Channel back in the 80's.

...that I have blown my nose twice since typing the above comment about mucus.

What's OK with you today?

XOXO!

It's Friday! Can I Get an Amen?

First of all, I wanted to let y'all know I created a "fan" page for my blog on Facebook. If you are interested in "liking" it, please go here (or search Randomness With Rachel). For those of you who have asked, if you "like" my page, I cannot see the information on your profile (unless you don't have it set to private).

Second of all, can I just say I'm so glad it's Friday. Good grief, what a week. I'm too excited that it's Friday to go into all the gory details of my week, but man, I'm glad it's the weekend. Do you have big plans? Anyone who lives in the Dallas area knows where I'll be this weekend: Rangers Fanfest. Oh yes my friends. Baseball season is around the corner (okay, it's still 70 days away-but it's getting closer). If you want to read of my adventures at last year's Fanfest, go here. You can bet that next week I will bore enlighten thrill bombard you with my adventures of Fanfest this year. It's supposed to be bigger and better. Wahoo!!

1. Where did you meet your spouse...
Okay, I'm not even writing that whole question out. I have yet to meet him. Although I'm 81.4 percent sure that Zachary Levi (from Chuck) is my soul mate (I have mentioned this on my blog before, many times in fact). ;)

He's so adorkable!

2. What is your favorite room in your house?
Probably my loft. I have a two story apartment. I have an upstairs room that I use as my sports memorabilia/craft room/storage for my rarely used pilates equipment. I love it! Yes, I know, I have a lot of Spurs stuff. I have mentioned before that I use to live in San Antonio. I also grew up hearing my dad and brothers cheer for them (my folks are from San Antonio). Don't worry Mavs friends, I like the Mavs too (even though I've been told that is a NBA sin- whatever!) ;)

3. Can you wiggle your ears?
Um, no. Can you?

4. What is your evening ritual?
It all depends on if I go out after work. The one thing that stays the same is that right before I got to bed, I wash my face, brush my teeth, read my Bible and then put in my mouth guard. Yeah, I grind my teeth in my sleep. My dentist has been yelling at me to make sure I wear my mouth guard at night. Can I just say it's the most unattractive thing ever? No, I won't take a picture of me wearing it! This is as close as you'll get!

5. How many hours of sleep do you need a night to function?
I aim for 8, but that rarely happens. I try and get anywhere from 6-7 hours, but that's only on a good night. I have had sleeping issues my whole life where I wake up during the night A LOT. Let's just say I'm very familiar with what is on TV between the hours of 2-6am. :(

And lastly, yesterday I received a Christmas present in the mail from my sweet friend Jillana. I LOVE this. I think I'm going to keep it out all year long!! :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Take some time and head over to For The Love of Blogs and meet some new friends today!!

Thursday Thirteen

I've noticed the past few weeks that some of my friends seem to be struggling in different areas of their lives. I've either heard it from them, read about it on Facebook or read it on their blogs. So for my Thursday Thirteen I wanted to share 13 songs from various Christian artists that I hope will help them get through their "rough patch". If you are struggling with anything, or just having a "blah" phase in your life, I hope one of these songs helps you. I couldn't embed all the videos, so click on the name to take you to the Youtube video of the song. Love y'all!! :) And thanks so much for taking time to read my blog! It means so much to me! :) Be blessed friends!

So, I promised my girl Vic over at Freckles and Fudge (check her out, she rocks my socks), that this week for my Thirsty Thursday I would post a picture of the outfit I would wear for the occasion. I didn't have time to prepare a really super cute outfit (sorry girl, my week got away from me), so I'm doing something a little different (hope she doesn't mind). I decided to post a picture of where I WISH I was for my Thirsty Thursday. Instead of desk-side in my office (wearing my "business professional outfit") drinking a Dr Pepper from RaceTrac (and snacking on some M&Ms), I wish I was lake-side, soaking up some of that Texas sunshine, enjoying a cold, refreshing Dr Pepper from the ice cooler and a hamburger from the grill!

One last quick note. Have to give two birthday shout outs. Today is my brother Stephen's birthday (I don't think he would appreciate me mentioning his age, so I'll refrain). Happy birthday Steve!!

My brother Steve and my nephew Jonathan-taken in June at Jon's graduation

Today is also my great-nephew "C"'s 2nd birthday! I can't believe he is already two!! I'm sad I am missing his big birthday party tonight (since I'm leaving for Atlanta tomorrow, I couldn't make the trip). I know there will be lots of pictures, I can't wait to see them! XOXO from Aunt Rachel!

Ridiculously giddy

Happy Friday sweet friends! I know I mentioned yesterday about the Rangers getting a new owner. I can't even begin to describe how happy it makes my "baseball heart". I'll spare you all the details most of you probably don't care about (just Google Chuck Greenberg or Nolan Ryan and look at news articles from the past week, it will catch you up). It's been a long process getting the ownership of the team transferred to Chuck and Nolan (since I'm friends with Chuck Greenberg on Facebook, I feel I can call him by his first name. And Nolan Ryan is just Nolan to everyone around here. That's how we do things in Texas). :) I emailed my friend Nathan yesterday telling him that I was "ridiculously giddy" about the new ownership and the possibility of great things to come for the Rangers. He said he was too. Like I've mentioned before, being a Rangers fan is sometimes like being in an "unhealthy relationship". They get your hopes up, just to break your heart. So far this season they are exceeding all my expectations. I refuse to jinx them and say anything more, but right now, my baseball heart is happy! Again, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, in rain and in 100+ degree temperatures, in wins and in losses, I'm a Rangers fan for life!

I do have a point to this rambling. I was just setting up the pictures I'm about to post. My sweet great-nephews "C" and "E" got professional pictures taken a while back wearing adorable Rangers outfits (three guesses which favorite aunt bought them). ;)

"C" says "Put me in coach!"

"E" is ready to throw the ball

"C" loves playing baseball!

Okay, so they changed his outfit for this picture. But, it was too cute not to share!

It's Friday and if you are a regular follower of my blog, you know it's Five Question Friday time! Welcome all new visitors!! Feel free to put your feet up and stay for a while!

New Friend Fridays

1. Are you a neat sleeper or a messy sleeper?
I think that I'm a neat sleeper. Now Mordecai, on the other hand, is the messy sleeper. The sheets are always tangled on his side (please click here to see who Mordecai is). ;)

2. Fill in the blank. I wish I was more _____.
I wish I was more Christ-like. I'll admit it. I have days where I'm not this nice, sweet person I make myself out to be (I know, you are all shocked). We aren't even going to discuss the things I said and thought about Mark Cuban when he was trying to steal the Rangers out from under Chuck and Nolan (again, Google for more info on that). Yes, okay, I was possibly praying about the ownership of a baseball team. Are you really surprised?? I have no doubt that God was up in heaven, head in his hands going, "What am I going to do with this girl?" But in all seriousness, I do wish that my attitude was more of a reflection of Him, than myself.

3. What is something that you wish you had been warned about?
The evilness of credit cards. As an innocent, naïve, 18 year old in college, I signed up for a credit card (hey, they were giving away free T-shirts with each application). When you are young, you don't think about having to pay back everything you put on the card- you think of it as "free money". And then it adds up (and adds up, and adds up...you get the idea). Oh, to be able to go back in time....but alas, I cannot.

4. What was the best thing you have ever found at a garage sale/flea market?
I don't go to a lot of garage sales or flea markets (nothing against them, I just don't go). I guess eBay is sort of the 21st century's version of a worldwide garage sale. For a while, I bought some sports memorabilia and art history books off of eBay, so I guess I'll go with that. I have been "eBay free" for almost 10 years now. I realized it was becoming an addiction and I was buying stuff I really didn't need (I know, shocker!)

5. If you could have any meal brought to you right now, what would it be?
Um...I'm not that hungry right now, so I really don't know. I'm a big fan of steak, and I rarely turn down a free steak meal, so I'll go with that (it's a joke amongst my friends and family that I get more free steak than anyone else they know). So, I would like a sirloin steak (no pink but not burnt), a baked potato with cheese (no sour cream) and a Caesar salad. Now that I think about it, I'm starting to get hungry. So, if anyone is near the "big pink building" (as I call my office), feel free to bring that to me for lunch today!! :)

Happy Friday!! I hope you all have a great weekend!! This time next week I'll be getting ready to board a plane for my trip to Atlanta. I'm so excited!!

I leave you with two more pictures from the "C" and "E" photo shoot! You can't tell that I'm a proud aunt AT ALL, can you?? : )

Wednesday Ramblings...

I thought about rambling today on how the Rangers beat the Oakland A's 3-1 in the bottom of the 10th last night (thank you Nelson Cruz for the walk off home run). BUT, I figured my non baseball addicted friends might want a break from baseball talk, so, I opted to do this "note" that I got on Facebook instead. It's called the "Truffle Shuffle". What you do is set your iPod to shuffle and answer the following questions with whatever song comes up (even if it makes no sense). Some of these are really funny, some are so close it's scary!! : ) And yes, I really did shuffle and didn't "cherry pick" answers.

Come On, Get Happy by David Cassidy (theme to the 1970s TV show The Partridge Family)

14. WHAT DO YOU THINK WHEN YOU SEE THE PERSON YOU LOVE?

Watching You by Rodney Atkins

16. WHAT WILL YOU DANCE TO AT YOUR WEDDING?

20. WHAT MAKES YOU CRY?
American Soldier by Toby Keith (this song actually can make me tear up! GOD BLESS OUR TROOPS!)

21. WHAT SCARES YOU THE MOST?

22. DOES ANYONE LIKE YOU?
Friends by John Michael Montgomery (again, that fits perfectly!!) :)

23. IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE?
Here Comes Goodbye by Rascal Flatts

Let the long weekend begin!

I can't tell you how excited I am to have a four day weekend. I started it today by sleeping in this morning. I think I finally caught up on all the sleep I missed LAST week! :)

It's Five Question Friday time! In case I don't get to post again before then, I hope everyone has a WONDERFUL and SAFE Fourth of July weekend!!

1. What is one thing you miss the most about childhood?
I miss the "carefree lifestyle" that kids had back when I was younger (oh yes, the whole 'back when I was your age" speech). I miss the days when I could walk to my best friend's house and we would hang out all day (she now lives 4 hours away, we only see each other a few times a year). I miss the days when my biggest worry was if I was going to be able to find a ride to the swimming pool or library (oh yes, my nerdom strikes again!) I miss not having to worry about money or responsibilities.

2. Are you still friends with your friends from high school?
I'm still friends with some of them. With the invention of Facebook, I'm in touch with more people from high school than I probably would have been if there weren't social networking websites.

3. Is there a catch phrase, cliche, or word that just drives you bonkers every time you hear it?
I dated a guy that would always say, "It is what it is." That phrase drives me insane!

4. What is the one thing that you think symbolizes America...besides Old Glory?
I would say Freedom.

5. What are your 4th of July plans?
I have a niece and nephew coming into town today. We are going to a Rangers game  tonight (I know, imagine that), and we are going to see the new Twilight movie Eclipse (yes, I saw it last night, but they want to see it, so I'm going again. I'm an awesome aunt!) My review of the movie will be posted next week! Tomorrow night I have plans to go out with friends then on the actual 4th of July I am going to two different 4th of July parties. I have Monday off work and I plan to do nothing all day except watch movies! :)

Have a great weekend everyone!!

:)

Wednesday Ramblings...

Oh so much to ramble about today. First of all, it was made official yesterday that the Dallas Stars hockey team would not offer long time player Mike Modano another contract. Mike held a press conference today saying he will weigh his options and either retire or see if another team wants to pick him up for next season. He has been playing hockey for 22 years. I personally would like to see him retire a Dallas Star, but I don't want him to pull a Brett Favre and retire, then decide in a few months to come back.

So, in honor of Mike, I found a few videos on YouTube to share. Thanks for the memories Mike, best of luck! You will be missed!

This is highlights of his last game at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. He scored the winning goal. Very fitting!

Who says there is no crying in hockey?

If you go to minute 4:08 of this clip, you can see Mike's cameo in the Disney hockey classic The Mighty Ducks. Let's hope he doesn't try and take up acting when he retires! :)

So, today is the day that Twi-hards all over have been waiting on. The premier of Twilight Saga: Eclipse hit theaters at midnight last night (this morning?). No, I was not there (but according to Facebook status updates, I have a lot of friends who went). I'm actually going tomorrow night with a group of friends (including one friend who has come out of the "Twilight closet" as I call it. She's a fan now, she can deny it all she wants, but she likes the series now!) ;) Luv ya LC!

Who will Bella choose? Oh wait, I've read the books, I already know!! :)

Finally, I meant to post some of these pictures earlier this week but haven't had time. Last Saturday I got to go to a celebrity baseball game in Frisco. Ironically enough, part of the proceeds went to the Mike Modano Foundation, which helps improve the quality of life for at-risk and under-served children in the DFW area. It was a lot of fun. Mike Modano's "White Sox" beat the "Blue Sox" 12-8.

Mike Modano being interviewed before the game

Me and Donald Faison. He was on the TV show Scrubs. He was hilarious!

Me and Geoff Stults. He was on the TV show 7th Heaven and the movie She's Out of My League. He was a super sweet guy!

Me and my friend Beks waiting on the game to start. I'm wearing my Brazil cap (my parents got it for me when they were missionaries in Brazil). Since the USA got eliminated from The World Cup, I'm cheering for Brazil now!

Former Dallas Cowboys player Daryl "Moose" Johnston (in the blue)

Former football player (and Dancing With The Stars contestant) Warren Sapp

Dallas Mavericks player Jason Kidd

Happy Wednesday to all!! We are halfway through the week (although tomorrow is my "Friday" since I have a four day weekend!) ;)
