Thursday 13- iPod Shuffle

Today for my Thursday 13 I thought I would do another random shuffle of my iPod (okay, it's actually the music app on my iPhone, but whatever!) :) Yes, I realize that I have random music on my playlist! :)

(Rangers fans might recognize this as one of Josh Hamilton's walk up songs!) :)

(I liked this video of a little kid lip syncing to this song!) :)

Tuesday Tunes

I found out today that Robert Sherman, songwriter for a lot of classic Disney movies, passed away yesterday. I felt it was appropriate to dedicate my Tuesday Tunes post to him. Here are some of my favorite songs that he wrote (or co-wrote).
Of COURSE this would be listed first! :) Mary Poppins in my favorite movie!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang title song.

Let's Get Together from The Parent Trap

Ugly Bug Ball from Summer Magic (another Hayley Mills' movie). For the record, this is NOT Jerry Mathers, it's his brother Jimmy.

I'm Just A Little Black Rain Cloud from Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree

I know, I know. I know way to much about classic Disney movies (don't judge). :)

XOXO!

It's OK Thursday!

Its Ok Thursdays

It's OK...

...to count the nuggets in your Chick-Fil-A meal to make sure you weren't shorted one.

...to be happy when you realize you got two more nuggets than you paid for.

...to be 33 years old and going to see Breaking Dawn tomorrow night.

...to be singing this song at your desk:

...to have been shocked at the end of this week's episode of NCIS: Los Angeles

...to spend entirely too much time on Pinterest.

...to put up your Christmas decorations this weekend because you are out of town next weekend and won't have time after that.

...to REALLY want to attend George Strait's concert in Tulsa, OK on Feb. 16.

... to have drawn this during a department meeting:

...if you haven't entered Judy's soap giveaway! You have one more day! :)

What's OK with you today??

XOXO!

Tuesday Tunes- Take Me Back to High School!

Gotta give credit to Brendan at the Ben and Skin Show for giving me my idea for today's Tuesday Tunes (side note: follow Brendan on Twitter here. He's awesome!) And I'm one of his favorite followers, go on, ask him, he'll tell you! Yesterday he played a "drop" that had Beck's song "Loser" in it. It made me think of high school. So for my post today, I thought I would list some songs that "take me back" to high school every time I hear them. For the record, I wasn't necessary a fan of all these bands, I just know these songs (for instance, I couldn't name another House of Pain song if my life depended on it). :) But I was a fan of Boyz II Men and Hootie and the Blowfish! :)

**Randomness With Rachel is not responsible for the content or lyrics in the following videos. Please view at your own risk. Thank you.**

Jump Around by House of Pain

Loser by Beck

Shoop by Salt-n-Pepa

Buddy Holly by Weezer

On Bended Knee by Boyz II Men

Only Wanna Be With You by Hootie and the Blowfish

Lump by The Presidents of the United States of America

Breakfast At Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something

Have a great day!!

...to leave your clean laundry spread out on the couch for a week because you are too lazy haven't had time to hang it up.
...to write reminders on your bathroom mirror because you will forget otherwise.
...to wish that the vehicle in the HOV lane with only one person in it would get pulled over by the cops.
...to yell at that same car in front of you who is going 30 MPH in the HOV lane.
...to wear earphones at work when you are not really listening to anything, just so you won't be bothered.
...to sit and cry while watching videos on WelcomeHomeBlog.com.
...to be counting down the hours until your four day weekend.

So, what's OK with you today? Link up with Neely and Amber!

Thursday 13- More iPod Confessions

If you check out my posts here and here, you will see previous iPod confessions (or "songs my friends won't believe I have on my iPod"). I thought it was about time to list some more for my Thursday 13. For those new to my blog, I would say the majority of my songs are country (what can I say, I'm a country girl, well, at least when it comes to music). :) If you want to hear the song, click on the name.

1. Jeremy by Pearl Jam
My friend Zach loved (and I mean loved) Pearl Jam, so when we were in high school, I listened to a lot  of them whenever we hung out. I didn't realize until recently this song was based on a real guy named Jeremy. Go here for that story. It's a dark song, so please click on the video with caution. It's not "kid approved".

2. Why Can't I by Liz Phair
I don't know why I like this song, but I do.

3. Ain't No Rest For the Wicked by Cage the Elephant
I heard this song when I was out somewhere and I used my Shazam app to tag it so I could look it up later. It's weird, but I like it, it has an interesting beat.

4. Dancing Queen by ABBA
How can you not dance around to this song?

5. Love Shack by The B52s
You know you want to sing along!

6. Fight For Your Right by The Beastie Boys
So, I was about 8 when this song came out. There was a college student who would watch the kids during choir practice after Sunday night church. She used to play Beastie Boys music for us . Yeah, not really "church music" is it? :)

7. Buddy Holly by Weezer
This song takes me back to high school. I was on the newspaper staff and there was a guy who was a huge Weezer fan and was always playing their CD in the newspaper office. This was one of my favorites!

8. Do That To Me One More Time by Captain and Tennille
What? I can't like a little Captain and Tennille?

9. I Know by Drake Bell
I heard this song for the first time last week. I had never heard of this kid before (okay, he's like 24, but sadly that is a kid to me). I can't explain it, but I like his voice. After a search on Google it seems he was on a Nickelodeon show like 5 years ago (I had never heard of it- but Nick sure has changed since I watched it!) I'm almost embarrassed to have it listed, I'm way too old to be listening to "teen pop" music, but he has a good voice! I won't make any comments on how his hair in this video drives me bonkers. PUSH IT OUT OF YOUR FACE! Oh, sorry!

10. Bubbly by Colbie Caillat
This is a song that gets stuck in my head a lot! :)

11. Material Girl by Madonna
How could I be a child of the 80s and not have Madonna on my iPod?

12. Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond
My BFF Brandy and I were singing along to this song one time at a Rangers game and the guy in front of us said we were too young to know this song. How can you NOT know this song??

13. According to You by Orianthi
If I were to dance around singing into a hairbrush, it would be to this song. Again, I said IF. :)

It's Thirsty Thursday, make a new friend, go check out For the Love of Blogs

XOXO!

Hello Friday! Looking good!

Once again I've been slacking on my blog- so sorry. It has just been one of "those" weeks. I seriously thought about going postal a few times. Like I said on Twitter earlier this week: "I didn't major in elementary education. Why am I working with a bunch of 1st graders?" I won't bore you with all the details, but I'm SO GLAD it's Friday. It's my flex day, so I was off work at 11:30. I am currently enjoying an NCIS marathon on USA. Yes, I know, I'm so addicted. Moving on...

It's been a while since I've participated in Five Question Friday, so here you go!

1. Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
We usually open them Christmas morning. I think there were a few times when I was younger I could open one gift on Christmas Eve. If Christmas fell on a Sunday, I was allowed to open one gift before church- the rest had to be opened after church.

2. What is your favorite Christmas cookie (or candy)?
I'll have to go with candy canes.

3. What's the worse Christmas gift you have ever received?
Oh wow, I can't think of one off the top of my head. I know when I was younger I would always get socks at Christmas. Since I was a kid, of course I thought that was the worst gift ever. Right now, I actually need new socks, I could use a few pairs. I LOVE toe socks. :)

4.  Christmas song you love?
I can't pick just one. I had planned on doing a post about my favorite Christmas songs, I guess I can do that today. I'll post them below!! :)

5. How many trees do you put up?
You mean in my house? Just one. Here is a picture of my tree this year!

I can't pick just one Christmas song so here are a few of my favorite! You would be here all day reading if I listed them all!

I know this one has been recorded MANY times, but my favorite version is the one sung by the great Bing Crosby. A little Christmas trivia: The song "White Christmas" made its debut in the 1942 classic Holiday Inn. The movie White Christmas was made years later. :)

One of my favorite Christmas hymns! I LOVE Josh Groban's version of it. I am absolutely in love with his voice (I know, that sounds weird, but you know what I mean). He has a great voice.

I may, or may not, cry sometimes listening to this song. I wonder at times if Mary realized who her son would grow up to be. To her, he was her baby boy.

You know, the line, "there'll be scary ghost stories" has always puzzled me in this song.

To see a list of some of my favorite "funny" Christmas songs, check out my post from last December here.

Have a great weekend!!
:)

Thursday Thirteen, Thirsty Thursday and Blog Journal Day 16

I asked some friends for some Thursday Thirteen ideas and my friend Monica said I should list 13 places I would like to visit. I decided to make it a three part series. This week I will do 13 places in Texas I'd like to visit (hey, Texas is a big state- there is a lot to see!) Next week I will list 13 places in the U.S. I'd like to visit and then the following week 13 places outside of the U.S I'd like to visit.

I've lived in Texas my whole life and have never been to the following places (some of these I can't believe I haven't been to yet!) Some of these are close enough for a day road trip. I need to start marking these off!! As I've mentioned before, I'm a history nerd, I love going to historical sites!! :)

1. The Eiffel Tower in Paris, Texas
The Eiffel Tower was built by the Boiler Makers Union Local #902 in 1995 replicating the famed Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. It's 65 feet tall and was once the second largest Eiffel Tower. Unfortunately, both Eiffel Towers (in Paris, Texas and Paris, France) have now been surpassed in 1999 by a 540-foot replica built in Las Vegas. Not to be outdone, Texas' Eiffel Tower sports a 10 foot wide, 4 ½ foot tall red steel Stetson cowboy hat.

2. Stonehenge II in Hunt, Texas
Stonehenge II is a smaller sized replica of the original Stonehenge monument found in Salisbury, England. The idea was conceived by the late Al Shepperd and built with the help of his friend and neighbor, Doug Hill. It is located on FM 1340 west of Hunt, Texas about 60 miles west of San Antonio, Texas. Most of the stones are man-made out of plaster applied to a wire frame. Some of the stones are real and quite heavy. At the same location they have two imitation Moai, or Easter Island statues.

3. Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas
The Cadillac Ranch, built in 1974 ( relocated in 1997) by Stanley Marsh 3, is located along Interstate 40 west of Amarillo, Texas. Marsh is the helium millionaire who owns the wheat field where Cadillac Ranch stands. Marsh and The Ant Farm, a San Francisco art collective, assembled ten used 1949-1963 Cadillacs burying them nose-down and facing west. They are covered with graffiti and positioned "at the same angle as the Cheops' pyramids." Visitors are encouraged 24/7 and encouraged to add to the graffiti. Just don't try to steal anything. Mr. Marsh brandishes his own form of law enforcement. He has been accused of " threatening an 18-year old with a hammer and penning him inside a chicken coop." In 2005, the Cadillacs were painted pink as a tribute to breast cancer victims.

4. The Marfa Lights in Marfa, Texas
I can't believe I haven't gone here yet! The Marfa ghost lights are unexplained lights (known as "ghost lights") usually seen near U.S. Route 67 on Mitchell Flat east of Marfa, Texas. The first published account of the lights was written in 1957, and this article is the sole source for anecdotal claims that the lights date back to the 1800s. Reports often describe brightly glowing basketball sized spheres floating above the ground, or sometimes high in the air. Colors are usually described as white, yellow, orange or red, but green and blue are sometimes reported. The balls are said to hover at about shoulder height, or to move laterally at low speeds, or sometimes to shoot around rapidly in any direction. They often appear in pairs or groups, according to reports, to divide into pairs or merge together, to disappear and reappear, and sometimes to move in seemingly regular patterns. Their sizes are typically said to resemble soccer balls or basketballs.

5. Big Bend National Park, West Texas
For more than 1,000 miles (1,600 km), the Rio Grande/Río Bravo forms the international boundary between Mexico and the United States, and Big Bend National Park administers approximately 244 miles (393 km) along that boundary. Archeologists have discovered artifacts estimated to be 9,000 years old, and historic buildings and landscapes offer graphic illustration of life along the international border in the 1800s.

6. The Blue Bell Creamery in Brenham, Texas
This is embarrassing. I'm one of Blue Bell's biggest fans and I've never been to the place where they make it. It gets worse. I have a sister that LIVES in Brenham. Okay, next time I go visit, I'm going to take the tour. I hear you get a free scoop of ice cream after the tour is finished. Yummy!

7. Point Isabel Lighthouse in Port Isabel, Texas
The "beacon" of the southern Texas coast in more ways than one, the Point Isabel Lighthouse is located in the tiny coastal community of Port Isabel, just across the Laguna Madre Bay from South Padre Island. During its active period, the Lighthouse guided mariners across the waters of the Laguna Madre and nearshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Today, it guides thousands of tourists, interested in getting a glimpse of Texas maritime history, to Port Isabel.

8. San Jacinto Monument and Memorial in La Porte, Texas
There is a spectacular monument where Texas won independence from Mexico and Santa Anna in 1836. The monument is a 567.31-foot high column located on the Houston Ship Channel in the city of La Porte. The monument is topped with a 220-ton star that commemorates the site of the Battle of San Jacinto, the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution. The monument, constructed between 1936 and 1939 and dedicated on April 21, 1939, is the world's tallest monumental column and is part of the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. By comparison, the Washington Monument is 555.4 feet tall. The column is an octagonal shaft faced with Texas Cordova shellstone, topped with a 34-foot Lone Star—the symbol of Texas. Visitors can take an elevator to the monument's observation deck for a view of Houston and the USS Texas. The San Jacinto Museum of History is located inside the base of the monument, and focuses on the history of the Battle of San Jacinto and Texas culture and heritage.

9. Texas Rangers Museum in Waco, Texas
No, not MY Texas Rangers baseball team. The original Texas Rangers (think Walker, Texas Ranger- except the real Rangers don't round-house kick people, at least I don't think so). :) It is the state-designated official historical center of the famed Texas Rangers law enforcement agency. It consists of the Homer Garrison, Jr. museum gallery, the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, the Texas Ranger Research Center and the Headquarters of Texas Rangers Company "F". The City of Waco serves as the appointed trustee on behalf of the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Legislature.

10. Caverns of Sonora in Sonora, Texas
The Caverns is a unique cave located 8 miles west of the town of Sonora, Texas. It is a world-class cave due to its stunning array of calcite crystal formations, especially helictites. These helictites are found in extreme abundance, often with a rare purity and complexity. One formation is so densely packed with them it has been dubbed the "Snake pit". The founder of the National Speleological Society, Bill Stephenson, said of the cave after his first visit: "This is the most indescribably beautiful cave in the world, its beauty cannot be exaggerated, not even by a Texan."

11. Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site in Denison, Texas
It is located at 208 East Day Street in Denison, Texas, is the birthplace of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who was born in the house on October 14, 1890, the first United States President to be born in Texas. The house has been restored to an 1890 appearance by the Eisenhower Birthplace Foundation, and is currently operated as a Texas State Historic Site.

12. Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg, Texas
It is an enormous pink granite pluton rock formation located in the Llano Uplift. Enchanted Rock covers approximately 640 acres and rises approximately 425 feet above the surrounding terrain to elevation of 1,825 feet above sea level. It is the largest such pink granite monadnock in the United States. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, a part of the Texas state park system, includes 1,644 acres.

13. Guadalupe Mountains National Park, West Texas
It is located in the Guadalupe Mountains of West Texas and contains Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas at 8,749 feet in elevation. It also contains El Capitan, long used as a landmark by people traveling along the old route later followed by the Butterfield Overland Mail stagecoach line. Visitors can see the ruins of an old stagecoach station near the Pine Springs Visitor Center.

You might want tissues, you have been warned!!

Hope you have a great Thursday!!

Wednesday Ramblings and Blog Journal Day 8

Once again, I seek your help in trying to get votes for a Rangers player. Rangers third baseman Michael Young has been nominated for the 2010 Roberto Clemente Award. If you wouldn't mind,  could you please vote for him here? It's very easy, and you could win a trip to the 2010 World Series. If you aren't a baseball fan, I'll be more than happy to take the tickets if you end up winning! ;)

Michael Young- great guy, please vote for him!! :)

So, thanks to Tropical Storm Hermine, we've seen pretty much non stop rainfall  here in Dallas the past two days (some of it VERY heavy). I thought I saw animals lining up two my two outside my office earlier. I've started singing "The Arky Arky Song". For those of you who didn't grow up in a Children Church Choir, here are some of the lyrics (click HERE for full lyrics).

 The Lord told Noah
To build him an arky, arky
 The Lord told Noah
To build him an arky, arky
Build it out of gopher barky, barky
 Children of the Lord

Chorus:
  Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
 Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
 Rise and shine
And give God the glory, glory
 Children of the Lord

 He called for the animals,
They came in by twosie, twosies
 He called for the animals,
They came in by twosie, twosies
 Elephants and kangaroosie, roosies
 Children of the Lord

Chorus

 It rained and it poured
 For forty daysie, daysies
 It rained and it poured
 For forty daysie, daysies
Almost drove those animals crazy, crazies,
 Children of the Lord

Chorus

So, I'm kinda bummed that tonight is the summer finale of the show Psych. This season has been so good so far, I can't wait for the next half of it! :) For the official Twitter page of Psych, go here. They are great!

Day 8: A photo that makes you sad:

Any picture or video from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital makes me sad. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great place. It just breaks my heart to know that young children are suffering from such awful diseases and need a place like St. Jude's to go to. For more info on St. Jude's, please go here.

I just saw on Twitter that on September 27, Chili's is donating 100% of their proceeds to St. Jude. So, if you have been waiting for a night to go out and eat, I think that is a great day to plan for it! Go here for more details!

We are halfway through the week!! Make it a good one!

:)
