Happy Friday to all!!

First of all, I want to wish all of you who are mothers (or acting in the place of a mother) a VERY HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! Thank you for all you do! :) I'm actually going "home" today to spend the weekend with my mom.

Second, welcome everyone visiting from The Girl Creative, Happy New Friend Friday! Sit back and enjoy your visit! Bonus points are available if you can follow my crazy train of thought!! :)

The Girl Creative

Well, today marks the end of the two year run of The Bonnie Hunt Show. I'm sad to see it go off the air. It was the first and only talk show I ever watched. Anyways, this week one of her last guests was none other than Mr. Dick Van Dyke (for those new to my blog, he's my favorite actor). It seems that Mr. Van Dyke has team up with Chad Smith (yes, the Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) to create a children's album titled, The Rhythm Train.

Turns out not only can Mr. Van Dyke sing and dance, he can also rap. Not bad for an 84 year old!

Well, what would a post of mine be without mentioning the Rangers. **deep sigh** The win last night put us back in first place (it was an ugly, roller coaster win, but a win nevertheless). We'll skip over the UGLY, GORY details of how our bullpen blew an 8 run lead. BUT, thanks to back-to-back homeruns by Josh Hamilton and Vladimir Guerrero in the 8th, the Rangers pulled off a 13-12 win. Being a Rangers fan is sometimes like being in an unhealthy relationship. You can't help but love them, despite the pain and heartache they sometimes bring you! : ) But I'm here, I'm committed to them. In sickness and in health, for better or for worse, in cold weather and in 100 plus degree weather, in wins and in losses, until death do us part.

Oh, and this just goes to show that checking Facebook periodically on my phone does pay off (for all of you that say I'm too "addicted" to my iPhone). :) While at the game I noticed that a friend's status mentioned that said she was at the game too. I commented that I was there as well, and she told me we should meet up, so I called her (we hadn't seen each other in like a year). It turned out there were empty seats by her and her family, so me and the friend I was with moved over by them. Here is a view from where we ended up sitting (thank you again Christy!!)

Our new view

Ian Kinsler in the on deck circle. Good to have him back in a Rangers uniform!

Josh's homerun in the 8th to tie the game

Me and my friend Christy! I would like to think that me wearing my Hamilton T-shirt brought Josh good luck. He went 3-5 with 3 RBI's! :)

TGIF my friends!!

Wednesday Ramblings...

Once again, I start my post with a birthday shout out.

HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY STEVE AVERY!! Seriously, what is up with all my former crushes turning 40 this year? Anyways, as I've mentioned in a previous post, Steve Avery was a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves back in the day. Yes, I was a Braves fan (I guess I still am, but obviously I pay more attention to the Rangers now). You see kids, back when I was young, we didn't have MLB TV or internet streaming of any baseball game we wanted to listen to. If it wasn't on regular television or radio, we were out of luck. Since I grew up in an area that didn't show or air Rangers games, I would find myself flipping through the channels and usually landing on TBS, home of the Atlanta Braves (I guess if I would have landed on WGN, I would have become a Cubs fan). Anyways, this started about 1990ish. In 1991, this team that I had been watching made it to the World Series (we'll leave out the part where it took them until 1995 to actually win it). Anyways, I've rambled on too much about the Braves when I really just wanted to say happy birthday to Steve. Not that anyone cares. Except my friend Jami (another Steve Avery fan), and my friend Mandy. Well, Mandy doesn't really care, she's just doomed to always remember April 14 as his birthday! : )

Well, I just realized that I've been keeping up with this blog for 6 months now. I'm still a newbie when it comes to blogging, but I'm having fun (and I've met some new blogging buddies! Shout out to all of them!!) I've also added many new blogs to my reading list. If you have time, check them out. Them are listed in the sidebar to the right under "My Blog List". And yes, that is the real Wil Wheaton whose blog I follow (I know, I'm a nerd). But he's funny! For all my Dallas area peeps, I strongly recommend you check out "My Dallas Mommy". There are some awesome deals and coupons listed there. I found a link for free tickets to the Studio Movie Grill on there yesterday. Sadly, there were only 100,000 available so you can no longer use that one (thankfully I had already printed mine). But keep checking, she posts lots of stuff daily!

Thanks for reading friends (new and old), I appreciate it!! I know I ended with a "Feel Good Moment of the Day" yesterday, but I think I'm going to post another one (because we all need a feel good moment, don't you agree?) This isn't an offical one that aired on The Bonnie Hunt Show, but a friend sent me this one. A soldier returned home after spending 15 months in Iraq and this was the greeting he received from his dog (so cute!!) God Bless our troops!! Thank you for all you do!!

Early Edition: Tuesday Ramblings...

I know, I usually have Wednesday Ramblings (and trust me, I'll probably still have a Wednesday Ramblings this week), but I honestly couldn't think of a clever title for my post today. And I also couldn't think of one specific topic to talk about (my mind can be an interesting place sometime!) : ) So, sit back, relax..here we go...

First of all, HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY RICKY SCHRODER!

If you are new to my blog, you might not be aware that my first crush was Ricky Schroder. Well today, my first crush turned 40. Yeah...I now feel old. : )

The year was 1983. I was 5 years old.

Me at age 5- I know, I was adorable, it was a tough job, someone had to do it! :)

The show was Silver Spoons. And yes, I own season 1 on DVD, judge me if you must!

Recently he appeared on The Bonnie Hunt Show (can you tell I'm a fan of her show? I seem to mention her a lot.) He's still a-dor-a-ble!! And I love the way he talks about his love for his wife. So sweet!!  **sigh**

Okay, so I know I said I was going to try to not mention baseball in my blog, but really, if you know me, that's not going to happen anytime soon. It's going to be thrown in somewhere, somehow, at least until October! ;) I'm posting this now because it probably won't last long. The Rangers starting pitchers have the LOWEST ERA in MLB right now (and if it wasn't for our closer Frank "I can't save a game to save my life" Francisco, who blew two saves last week, we would be 6-1 instead of 4-3, but I won't go there. I'm moving past that). : ) Here is picture proof about the ERA (shout out to my buddy Nathan who sent me this!) For all you none baseball fans, ERA means Earned Run Average. Sorry, I forget not everyone speaks baseball! : )

And lastly, since I mentioned The Bonnie Hunt Show earlier, she always ends her show with a "Feel Good Moment of the Day". It's usually a video sent in by a viewer, it can be funny, sweet or touching. I thought this one was very touching. A little boy's bike was stolen and he knew his parents couldn't afford to buy him a new one. This was his reaction when he saw they had gotten him another one. For my sensitive friends out there, **tissue alert**. You have been warned!! : )

Wednesday Ramblings...

After having Monday off work, my week is thrown off a bit (I'm not complaining though). I forgot that it was Wednesday already! And even better, my flex day this month is Thursday, so I only work 3.5 hours tomorrow. Wahoo!

I give you another installment of my Wednesday Ramblings. I've had a great week so far (and not just because it's been a short work week and I got to go to Opening Day. And not because I'm going to another Rangers game tomorrow...and also on Saturday. Oh yes, I take my baseball VERY seriously!) :) It's been a week of smiles and laughs so far, so I'd like to continue that theme here.

So, in no particular order....more things that make me smile/laugh/giggle like a school girl.

First of all, this picture of me and my sweet little great-nephew makes me smile. He is so precious!! I got to spend time with him last weekend. Yes, I said great-nephew. For those who don't know me, I have nieces and nephews close to my age, and some of them are married and have children. I am a great-aunt. :)

Another Pearls Before Swine that I like:

Okay, I promise to one day NOT mention baseball in a blog post. It's not going to be today though (obviously). My friend Nathan posted this on his Facebook page earlier today. It stars baseball players Ian Kinsler (of the Texas Rangers) and Prince Fielder (of the Milwaukee Brewers) as well as actor Adam Scott.  I **heart** you Ian!! :)

For those who have never seen the USA network show Psych, you are missing out. It is Hi-lar-i-ous. Oh yes, that funny! I love Shawn and Gus!!

This week I was introduced to a new "nerd crush". Zachary Levi (star of the TV show Chuck, which I now am going to start watching), was a guest star on The Bonnie Hunt Show. A-DOR-A-BLE! His whole interview made me laugh!! Here is part 1 of that interview:

I know, I know, I'm a nerd, I can't help it!

Have a great one!!

What's your favorite scary movie?

I started writing this post a few days ago, but I haven't been feeling that great, so I haven't had time to finish and post it.

It seems the past few days I've been discussing scary movies a lot with different people. Probably because Halloween was last week and most cable networks were having horror movie marathons. Or perhaps because I am one of those people who love a good scary story.

For as long as I can remember, I've loved scary movies/stories. I think it started when my brothers let me stay up late and watch The Twilight ZoneThe New Twilight Zone and Amazing Stories when I was little (say, around 7 or 8). Not sure if I ever told my parents about that. Oops. Or I could thank my dear, sweet, loving, grandma. I vividly remember being 11 years old and being in my grandma's room, learning how to plastic canvas cross stitch, while she and I watched The Omen. I can still hear her saying, "Don't tell your daddy I let you watch this." I remember, looking at her with wide eyes, saying "Grandma, that man's head just got chopped off!"

I've seen all of the classics. Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th. I remember one time in high school my friend Jami and I stayed up and watched all the Friday the 13th movies (well, those that were around at that time-more have been made since the mid 1990s). They were on the cable station USA, part of USA: Up All Night (for those of us who remember that Friday night show). We made a game out of watching them. We decided which girl would die first. It was always the one who went running into the woods at night (in heels I might add).

Last Saturday some friends and I took advantage of Halloween and decided to go see the new "thriller" Paranormal Activity. If you have any plans or desire to see this movie, I would stop reading this post now. I'll try not to put too many spoilers in it, but I don't want anyone mad that they read something ahead of time. Okay, I'm serious. I'm about to start talking about it. Last chance. Don't say I didn't warn you!

Okay, if you are still reading, you either have already seen the movie or have no desire to see it. Let me start off by saying, it wasn't a bad movie. It was made in the same style as the 1999 movie The Blair Witch Project. For those who haven’t seen that movie either, it was filmed with hand held cameras (lots of shaking-like a home movie). Paranormal Activity started out making it sound like this was a "true" story, and the footage was discovered after the fact. That would have been fine, if the cast of the movie hadn't been on the cover of every magazine or the topic of numerous internet blogs the past few months. Also the cast was interviewed on The Bonnie Hunt Show the day before I saw the movie (we'll get into the fact that 1) Bonnie Hunt has a talk show, and 2) I actually watch it, another time.)

Like I said before, it wasn't a bad movie, it just wasn't scary. There was all this hype about it being the scariest movie ever and how people were scared to see it alone. I saw the movie with four of my friends and not one time did any of us jump. Okay, one of them did, but I promised him I wouldn't use his name and call him a wimp on my blog! :) After the movie we just sat there, looking at each other going, "Are you serious? That's it??" We kept waiting for something to jump out on the screen at the last minute, but nope, after a few seconds, the theater lights came on. Honestly, the episode of The Waltons where the kids play with the Ouija board was scarier than this movie (yes, I have finally worked The Waltons into one of my posts, you knew it would happen!)

I do have a point to this blog (I blame the Dayquil for my more than normal randomness today). So, why do people watch scary movies? There are so many real life scary situations out there, why do we let “make believe” stuff scare us? I had a very similar conversation with a friend of mine last week (oddly enough, he and I were attending Fright Fest at Six Flags while having this conversation). I don’t really have an answer. I guess it would make for a great “round table” topic. If you are a fan of scary movies, feel free to comment and say why you watch them.
