Mobile Monday

After over six months of no Blue Bell, my favorite ice cream finally made its way back to stores in Dallas last week. My sweet friend Angie picked this up for me last Monday and dropped it off at my apartment that night. All is right in my world again. :)
NOTE: I know some people have issues with the Blue Bell company. I respect your opinions, but please keep hateful comments off my page. The owners of Blue Bell are friends of my family and are good people. Don't always trust everything the media tells you. There are two sides to every story. That being said, I will speak no more of this subject and will enjoy some wonderful Dutch Chocolate ice cream. :)

Last Tuesday was Election Day and everyone I knew was posting a selfie on social media wearing their "I voted" sticker. I was starting to think your vote wouldn't count unless you told everyone about it. Just to be sure my vote counted, I posted my "post election" selfie as well. :)

Shon Gables used to work for a local news station and we have been social media friends for a few years. She sent out a tweet last week that she was collecting shoes to be donated to people in 3rd world countries. I was able to donate about 8 pairs of shoes that I never wear. It was for a good cause, and it cleaned out my closet some!

Some friends and I went to Music Hall in Fair Park on Saturday to see The Sound of Music. I didn't know how many differences there were between the play and the movie. The cast did a wonderful job, but I like the movie song order and story line better. :)

Kroger had a discount table of all their Halloween stuff (I guess they were lumping all fall stuff into that category as well). This was included. I now have table cloths and napkins for Thanksgiving lunch. The table cloths ended up only being $1.50 and the napkins were 75 cents. Score!

My friend Monica and I went to the FC Dallas playoff game last night. FC Dallas is our local Major League Soccer team. I loved the atmosphere. Soccer fans are passionate. I love soccer, I'm not sure why I don't go to more games. FC Dallas won in a penalty kick shootout (which was an exciting finish to a great game). I'm trying to embed the video below of the shootout portion of the game.

This car was in front of me going to work today. Made me think of the roadrunner. Meep Meep!

It's OK...

I know this isn't a real link up anymore, but it's a good fallback to give me a topic so I can actually post twice in the same week!! :)

It's OK...

...that I seem to be the only person who doesn't care about the Oscars (as in the Academy Awards). I care fondly about a lot of Oscars, as in Oscar the Grouch, Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior of the Chelsea Football Club, and even Oscar Wilde. But when it comes to award shows, I just don't care- at all. Also I looked at the nominee list, I hadn't heard of 85% of the movies listed. And the ones I had heard of, I didn't see. Oh well. 

Three Oscars I actually care about...

...that I didn't meet my Reading Challenge last year. I wanted to read 52 books. I only read 30. That was still a good number of books though. I'm doing another reading challenge this year, and I also joined a book club. I'll try to be better about writing book reviews. I failed big time last year with that. I've already read two books this year, I HOPE to post those reviews soon! :) OH, shameless plug to follow me on Goodreads here.

...that I'm more excited than I should be about the movie Sharknado 3. I shall host a watching party at my house whenever it airs. Come on, who doesn't like a bad Syfy movie? :)

...that I was happy that Mr. Belding from Saved By The Bell replied to another one of my tweets. He tweeted that he had a Cowboys cap and I told him I wanted a picture of him wearing it. He sent one!

I have to say that Dennis Haskins is the best about talking to fans on social media. He will forever be Mr. Belding to all of us

...that the Cowboys lost last Sunday. Wait, NO, it's NOT okay. Never mind. I don't want to talk about it. Moving on...

Blog Challenge Catch-Up

I know, I'm behind a few days on my blog challenge. Oops, the weekend got away from me, sorry about that. Anyways, here we go...

Day 24: What sports have you participated in?

I played soccer until my junior year of high school (I injured my knees and couldn't play anymore). And as much as I love baseball, no I never played that or softball. I throw like a girl, but I can kick well. :)

Day 25: What are some of your favorite memories with your grandparents?

Two of my grandparents passed away when I was really young, so I don't have a lot of memories with them. I have very little memories of my dad's father. I know he would sit in his favorite chair, and when it was time to leave he would always say, "let me see if I have any change for the children". My mom's mother passed away the same year as my dad's father. I can vaguely remember going to visit my grandma Frances (as we called her). I can remember the smell of her perfume (but I can't tell you the name of it for the life of me).

I'm sitting on my grandma's lap, and my nephew Danny is on my grandpa's. My sister Mary and brothers Mark and David are behind us.

I don't have any scanned pictures of me with my grandma Frances. Here is one I found on Facebook, not sure what year this was taken. I'm guessing the 60s.

My mom's father passed away the day before my 11th birthday. I remember for a while he used to live on the second floor of this garage-type apartment. I remember it was always 90 degrees in there. He kept the furnace going year round. He also collected newspapers. There were PILES of them everywhere. I forget how old I was when he moved into a nursing home, maybe like seven or eight. This is one of the last pictures we took with him.

I have the most memories of my dad's mom. I remember going to visit her in San Antonio when I was little. I knew we were getting close to grandma's apartment when we passed by "the big boots" (these are located outside North Star Mall). When I lived in San Antonio 10 years ago, my office building was very close to these!

Grandma moved in with us when I was 10, and live with us until I was almost 17. I remember when I was about 11, I was in her room, and she was teaching me to cross stitch (yes, I cross stitch). We were watching the original version of The Omen. She kept saying, "don't tell your daddy I let you watch this movie." I just remember the part when some guy got decapitated and I was like, "grandma, that's man's head is rolling down a hill." Perhaps this is where my love of scary movies comes in! I also watched The Shining with her. My grandma had a stroke in the mid-90s and eventually was moved into a rest home, where she lived until she passed away in 2001.

Day 26: If you were forced to go back in time to olden days, but were allowed to take 10 modern conveniences with you, what would you take?

This all depends what "olden days" we are talking about. I mean, if I go too far back, and there is no electricity, it's pointless to take anything that needs a charge. Wait- I'm over-thinking this. I'm gonna assume it won't matter if I need electricity or not. There are no rules in time travel, right? :)

-iPhone: because it would freak people out that I could do all these things with just a phone. And I'm going to assume that the iPhone would have my "time travel app" for me to bounce back in forth between now and then. :)

-electronic reader: I know, I don't even own one, but I'm probably going to want to read, and this will be easier than carrying boxes full of books while I'm traveling through time. Although I still support the buying of real books. I still like them better! But for time travel purposes, I would take an E-reader.

-sunscreen: As you all know, I burn easily. I don't know when exactly sunscreen was invented, so I want to play it safe!

-hair straightener: I look like a rabid poodle if I can't straighten my hair.

-toothbrush: okay, maybe it's not technically a "modern" convenience, I just don't like the thought of traveling without one.

-laptop: Because I'm going to want to keep a journal of all my adventures. And my handwriting is terrible. And I'm too lazy to write things out long-hand.

-Snuggie: I get cold very easily, so I want to be prepared. Also, the folks back in time are going to think people in the future are stupid for paying money for something that is basically a robe you wear backwards. :)

-Purell: I'm not a complete germ-a-phobe, but still, I like having hand sanitizer handy.

-Dr Pepper: Because I cannot live in an era where it doesn't exist.

-gum: I always have gum. Preferably cinnamon flavored.

Wednesday Ramblings...

"GGGGGGGOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!" Okay, if you aren't a fan of soccer (or if you haven't turned on a radio/TV today), you might not be aware that the U.S. soccer team has advanced to the World Cup's second round by beating Algeria 1-0. Just a quick note to all you Twilight fans out there (or "Twi-hards" as they are called). On ABC tonight, Jimmy Kimmel is hosting a special with the cast of Twilight Saga: Eclipse. It's going to be on at 9:00 CST. T-minus 7 days until the movie hits theaters.

I've been trying to think of a topic for my Thursday 13 post most of the day. Recently I was "tagged" in a note on Facebook where you are supposed to list 25 random facts about yourself. So, I decided to be lazy and take 13 facts from that list and post them here. So, here you go...

1. I am the daughter of a Heavenly King. I know I can get silly with my posts, but I wanted to be serious for a moment with this one. I am proud to say that I know and love Jesus Christ. I am grateful that He loves me and cares for me, even when I am not deserving of it!  

2. I am the great-aunt of four adorable great-nephews!! 

3. My all time favorite actor is Dick Van Dyke. I enjoy watching reruns of The Dick Van Dyke Show and Diagnosis Murder. My favorite movie of all time is Mary Poppins.

 4. When I was in high school, I dislocated my knee while playing soccer.

5. Not counting the time when I was a baby, I didn't fly in a plane until I was 21. And I've only flown twice since then (once in 2007 and once last year).

6. My favorite dwarf from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is Dopey (yes, this explains my whole "ear obsession".)

7. I had a cat named Elvira when I was 4 years old (named after the Oak Ridge Boys song, "Elvira".)

8. I don't like milk. Now, chocolate milk I like. And I can put milk on cereal, but I don't like the taste of regular, plain milk.

9. I own over 3,000 baseball cards. Some of them are in notebooks, some are in protective cases. I've been collecting them since I was 11.

10. I love going to art and history museums. I've been known to plan vacations around what museums I can see in that particular town. My college roommate and I went to New Orleans for Spring Break our senior year. We spent most of the week in museums and on tours. I love having another museum "nerd" friend!! :)

11. I spend entirely too much money at Half Price Books.

12. I turn into a giddy 15 year old starstruck girl when professional baseball players shake my hand. Rangers Fanfest 2009: Josh Hamilton was in the locker room at the same time we were touring it. He made a point to shake my hand and speak to me before he left. Me and my friend Brandy were giggling like school girls for the next hour.
