Craft Project: Superhero Coasters

When I was younger my grandma taught me how to cross stitch using plastic canvas. I've posted a few of my cross stitch projects before (check out here and here). I'm determined to get back to working on craft projects (the last one I did was in November- you can see it here), so after finding some cute cross stitch patterns online, I decided to make some coasters for a friend of mine (as a late Christmas present).

I found the patterns for these coasters here (thank you Kandy Kreations for sharing the pattern).

These were fairly simple to make- and didn't take me that long. I started on a Sunday and finished that Wednesday. I worked on them for a few hours in the evening while watching TV- I can multitask! :)

Getting started: I cut 6 squares 28 x 28 holes (each coaster needed a backing).
For Superman, I stitched the blue part first before moving on to the "S" logo
I was able to read the pattern off of my iPad (instead of printing it out)
I did the Batman logo first, and then filled in the background
The pattern for this one was a little difficult, just because she used a white slash to present the white yarn, and since the background was also white, it was harder to see. I had to carefully count the stitches
I started late the night I worked on this one, so I had to finish the next day
To add the backing, I just lined up the canvas pieces and stitched around the top and sides
The final product!
I posted this picture on Instagram and I now have people wanting me to make coasters for them. Who knew they would be such a big hit! :) Oh, and my friend loved his superhero coasters! :)

XOXO!

Wednesday Ramblings

Happy halfway through the week friends! Hope you can keep up with all the stuff running through my head today! :)

First of all, I wanted to let you know about this awesome blog I just discovered: Sweet November. If you love crafts, this is the place to go! They are offering free advertising until they reach 300 followers. Click on the icon below to get more information!

As some of you may remember, I was a huge fan of the TV show LOST. Did you hear  the Mega-Millions winning lottery numbers last night? Four out of the six numbers on the winning lottery ticket were the same numbers as Hugo's winning lottery ticket on LOST (and the same numbers that kept "appearing" throughout the series).
Mega Millions numbers: 4, 8, 15, 25, 47, 42
Lost numbers: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42

The winning lottery ticket on LOST

I'm not familiar with how the lottery works (I personally don't play it), but I believe if you get at least three of the numbers and the mega number right, you win a small amount. I wonder how many LOST fans were still playing those same lottery numbers??

In other ramblings, last week on Twitter (again, follow me here if you would like), I entered Master Card's "Priceless to Me" Tweet of the Week contest. You had to send a tweet and put #pricelesstome in it, and then obviously say something that was priceless to you. Master Card then voted on the best one. Well, I won!! :) I'm supposedly getting my prize sometime this week or next week. I'm not sure what I'm getting, I'll let you know once I get it though! :)

My winning tweet and my notification that I had won!

I've been meaning to post this for a while. I mentioned a while back that I know how to cross stitch. For Christmas I made my sweet friend Jillana a tissue box cover. She loves lighthouses so I picked a lighthouse pattern. I thought I would show y'all a picture of it (a lot of you do "crafty" stuff on your blogs, and I was feeling left out). ;) I didn't mention it while I was working on it since she reads my blog. :) I'm so glad that she likes it! It was fun to make!

My tissue box masterpiece (okay, maybe not masterpiece)

Hope you are all having a fab week! Thanks for all the sweet comments, they have really made my week! And thanks to all of you giving me encouragement either in comments or on Twitter with my 30 Day Shred workout! I appreciate it! :) XOXO!

Hello Friday, you are looking good!

A big shout out to Sherwin (a new friend who stopped by my blog yesterday) for sharing this verse with me. I had to share it with ya'll today, I know there is someone else out there who needs to hear it.

Have you ever just needed to hear something? THAT verse is something that I needed to hear today. Thank you again Sherwin!

I've tried the following website out the past few weeks and have made some new friends, so I  wanted to post about it. Welcome everyone from New Friend Friday!

This website allows you to meet fellow bloggers. It seems practically everyone on there is very creative and always posting a new craft item or recipe. Sadly, I'm not that creative (and we all know I can't cook-well, if you know me, you know that I can't cook). I know how to plastic canvas stitch, that is about it (my grandma taught me how). I keep promising my friend Lindsay I will make her a Kleenex box cover (speaking of which, I need ideas Linds!) Once I do that, I will post it on here. Until then, here are a few items I made at Christmas for some friends:

For my friend Martha, I made Veggie Tales magnets. These are two of the three that I made. Her grandsons love them when they go visit her!

For my friend Paula, I made this plastic canvas Christmas stocking. This was quite possibly one of the hardest patterns I've ever worked on, but I enjoyed it!

I know what you are thinking. I plastic canvas stitch and my favorite actor is Dick Van Dyke. I'm a 60 year old trapped in a 31 year old body. Sometimes I feel about 60. But I'm told I look about 25 (23 on a good day). Although a few weeks ago I went to my nephew's high school baseball game and I was asked if I was a student. I almost hugged the guy! :)

Anyways, happy Friday friends!! Have a great weekend!!!
