Finally Friday!

Yesterday was one of those days you wanted to be over and it had barely started. In fact, my Twitter and Facebook statuses yesterday morning were "It's not even 8:30am yet and I either need a hug, a good cry or something to punch." Thanks to some very sweet friends on Facebook and Twitter (and a phone call from one of my besties), I was able to finally smile and survive the day!

One of my good friends thought I might need to "let off some steam" so he stopped by after work and took me to the shooting range (note: this was only my second time to ever shoot a gun). I must admit, I felt better.

Say  hello to my little friend...

The holes circled near the top are ones my friend did (he aimed for a specific area so we would know which shots were mine). Not too bad for my second time, I was excited that I hit the X area. :)

I am SO glad that it's Friday. I am looking forward to relaxing tonight and tomorrow, and then on Sunday night, oh yes, I am DEFINITELY looking forward to this...

Be prepared for a full recap of my NKOTBSB adventures next week!!

XOXO!!

TGIF!

What a week! I'm so glad it's Friday! As soon as I get off work today, I'm heading to my folks for Mother's Day weekend! Looking forward to some family time!

So, it's been a while since I participated in Five Question Friday, so I thought it was time I linked up again!

1. Have you ever had a roommate?
Yes, when I was in college (and then two years right after college). When I first moved to Dallas, one of my former college roommates and I had an apartment together for about a year before I moved into the apartment I live in now. Right now my only roommate is Mordecai*.

2. How many names do you have (i.e. Prince Charming William Phillip Arthur Louis John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt)?
I just have three. My first name, my middle name and my last  name. I did graduate high school with a girl who had 6 middle names (I'm not lying). I don't remember them all, but it took up two lines in our graduation program.

3. Did you watch the Royal Wedding?
No. Well, I saw about 10 seconds of it when I turned on WFAA to watch the morning news only to realize ABC had been hijacked by wedding coverage. No offense to William and Kate, I wish them all the joy and happiness in their marriage, but I just didn't see the appeal. Weddings just aren't a big deal to me. Maybe I'm not THAT girly. If my mother wouldn't kill me, I would totally elope whenever Joe Mauer and I get eventually married (like how I threw that in?) ;) He's tall, loves baseball and has cute ears (we've established my ears fetish in previous posts). And come on, how can you not love a guy who makes a milk commercial with his mom?? Too sweet!! <3

4. What is the messiest room in your house?
My bedroom, hands down. It's because I have so much crap junk stuff. Also, my bookcases won't fit in the living room, so both of them are in my bedroom. And seeing that I have more books than space, I have books stacked up around my room (and right now I have my scrapbooking stuff in the corner. I've been working on my World Series scrapbook from last year). I know what you are going to say. Get a (insert electronic book reader name here). I've tried reading on a Nook. There is just something about having an actual book in my hands when reading that makes it better. Maybe it's the feel and smell of a real book, I don't know. I know, I know, I'm weird.

5. What is your ideal Mother's Day?
Since I don't have kids, I can't answer this one.

Head over to For the Love of Blogs and meet some new friends today!!

So, I realized this morning that 11 years ago today, I was attending my college graduation. Where does the time go?? I leave you with this "gem" of a picture!! Yes, yes, my hair was very blonde. Have a great weekend y'all!! XOXO!

Class of 2000! Look how young and carefree I was! What was I thinking?

Photobucket

Second, I'm so glad it's Friday. I'm off work at 11:30 today and I am ready for a little R&R! What are your plans this weekend?

For more 5 question Friday entries, go here.

1. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I've been thinking about how I was going to answer this question, and I'm going to say...........nothing. Meaning, I wouldn't change anything about me. I'm the way I am for a reason. My friends and family love me (most of the time) the way I am- why change it? I mean, could you imagine if I was a shy, quiet girl who didn't like sports? **shudders at the thought**

2. Write about at time you got lost.
Before I moved to Dallas, I was in town visiting one of my college roommates and her family. She gave me and our other roommate, who was also in town visiting, directions to get back to school (we had carpooled to Dallas together). She accidentally told us to go the wrong way on one of the (many) interstates, and we ended up at the DFW International Airport. Meaning, we somehow took a road that led us to the front gate of the airport. We had to go through the airport to get back out. DFW airport is huge. I'm pretty sure it's bigger than Rhode Island (many not, but close). At one point I was fearing we were going to end up on a runway because the signs were so confusing. When we finally got out, we had to stop and call our other roommate to find out how to get back on the right interstate. This was all taking place during the B.C. portion of my life- before cellphones. I had to stop and call her from a payphone (yes kids, before cell phones, there were these things called payphones, for a quarter, you could make a local call). What should have been a 2 hour drive home ended up taking us almost 4 hours.

3. Camping or a 5 Star Hotel?
I'm going with the 5 Star Hotel. My idea of "roughing it" is staying in a hotel with no cable. Now, I like going hiking and being outside, I just like a hot shower and comfortable bed at the end of the day. :)

4. Have you donated blood?
No. I REALLY HATE needles. I know, I should just get over it and do it. I will, maybe, one day.

5. Do you have a budget, or do you "fly by" most months?
I have a budget. There are times I don't always stick to it, but I have one!

Don't forget to stop by For the Love of Blogs and say hi to my lovely friends!

XOXO!

The truth is revealed!

So last week I gave you five statements, one of them was true, and four of them were false. For those of you who missed it, here they are again (in no particular order).

-The first major league baseball game I attended was between the Rangers and the Orioles.
-When I was in junior high, my family hosted an exchange student.
-I didn't learn to swim until I was 10.
-My favorite clothing store is Old Navy.
-When I get married, I want to leave the reception in a DeLorean.

Are you ready for the true fact? I enjoyed reading your comments and getting your tweets with what you thought was true. A few of you guessed it correctly! Now, some of these were partially true, but only one was completely true.

1. The first major league baseball game I attended was between the Rangers and the Orioles.
NOT TRUE. My first RANGERS game was against the Orioles, but the first Major League Baseball game I attended was between the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros at the Astrodome in Houston (August 22, 1995). And Steve Avery was pitching that night (he was the winning pitcher in fact). Oh, and Chipper Jones called me "hun" (but that is a story for another day.) :)

     Steve Avery and Chipper Jones

2. When I was in junior high, my family hosted an exchange student.
NOT TRUE. I had a friend who hosted an exchange student from France (we taught him Pig Latin, it was awesome) but my family didn't host one. Anyone else remember Pig Latin? For a refresher course, go here for an English to Pig Latin translator! ;)

3. I didn't learn to swim until I was 10.
NOT TRUE. I learned to swim like at age 5. BUT, I didn't learn to ride a bike until I was 10 (don't laugh at me!)

4. My favorite clothing store is Old Navy.
NOT TRUE. I have maybe bought one thing from there in my entire life. I LOVE that most of you emailed or tweeted to me that you know my favorite store is Kohl's. That means you read my blog!! Or that I talk about Kohl's entirely too much! :)

5. When I get married, I want to leave the reception in a DeLorean.
TRUE! Yes, it's true. I would love to leave my wedding reception in a DeLorean. If it has a flux capacitor, that would be even cooler!! ;) I know, I'm a nerd. But think about it. Most people leave in a limo or by horse and carriage. How many people leave in a DeLorean?

I feel the need to watch Back to the Future now.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!! Sorry for the short post today. Hop on over to For the Love of Blogs and make a few new friends today!! XOXO!!

A Blog Award and Five Question Friday!

My good friend Katie over at Words by Katie presented me with a blog award. Thanks friend!!

The rules for this award are pretty unique. I have to list five things about myself. However, only ONE of the facts will be completely true. The other four might have a little bit of truth in them, but are ultimately incorrect. Think you can guess which one is real? :)

1. The first major league baseball game I attended was between the Rangers and the Orioles.

2. When I was in junior high, my family hosted an exchange student.

3. When I get married, I want to leave the reception in a DeLorean.

4. I didn't learn to swim until I was 10.

5. My favorite clothing store is Old Navy.

Leave your answer in the comments below (or tweet/email them to me!)

I'm supposed to pass this award along to other blogs, so I'm going to cheat (again) and pass it along to all of you!! Let me know if you participate, I'd love to see your facts!! :)

It's another Friday that I'm very happy to see! For more Five Question Friday answers, go check out Mama M. at My Little Life!

1. Can you drive a stick shift?
Now, if the question was "can you drive a stick shift WELL" the answer would be NO. A big NO. HECK NO. I can give you a list of people who have tried to teach me to drive a stick shift and they will laugh at you for asking. Now, if I was stranded in the middle of nowhere and the only way to get home was a stick shift, I would eventually get home. I can't guarantee the clutch would still be in good condition though. Once I get going, I'm okay. It's the whole getting going and starting/stopping thing that I can get down. My own personal hell is being stuck in a stick shift vehicle on a hill. **shuddering**

2. What are two foods you just can't eat?
Only TWO? You know me, I'm picky, but if I had to pick two, I would say guacamole (gag) and pasta salad. Now, I LOVE pasta. HOT COOKED pasta. The whole cold pasta thing doesn't fly with me! Blek!

3. Do you buy Girl Scout Cookies? What is your favorite kind?
I really hope I don't lose friends/followers by saying this, but here I go: I don't like Girl Scout Cookies. Now, to be fair, I don't really like many cookies (except my mom's homemade peanut butter cookies). So no, I don't buy any. No, I don't even like Thin Mints (is now a good time to mention I don't like chocolate and mint mixed together)?

4. How do you pamper yourself?
I usually go get a pedicure (the super-duper kind, where they use hot rocks and wrap your legs in hot towels. It's blissful! I even get little flowers painted on my toes!) :)

5. What is your nickname and how did you get it?
I actually did a post last year on my nicknames. Go here for that. In addition to those names, I'm also called Sniffles and Soul Sista! :)

Go make a new friend at For the Love of Blogs!

Have a great weekend lovelies!!
XOXO!!!

Friday, you have never looked more beautiful!

Can I just say I'm SO READY for this weekend? What. A. Week. Good grief!

For more 5 Question Friday responses, go here.

1. Have you worn the same outfit more than one day in a row?
Yes, but there is a story behind it. One time in college I went to visit some friends of mine (they went to school about an hour from me). I figured I would drive back home later that night, so I didn't bother to pack an overnight bag. The party we went to lasted longer than I had planned, and before we knew it, it was way too late for me to make an hour drive home. So, I had to sleep in my clothes and then wear them home the next day.

2. If you had to choose a LARGE city to live in, which would it be?
Dallas (seeing that I already live here). :)

3. Fly or drive with kids on vacation?
I don't have kids, so I can't answer this. I personally have a fear of flying (I've flown maybe 5 times in my entire life). I'm getting better though. I'm working up the courage to fly to Europe. Oh, and Hawaii!! :)

4.What is your idea of "spring cleaning"?
How funny that this is a question today. Even though it's not "technically" spring, it will feel like it this weekend, so I'm planning on cleaning my apartment (a little "pre-spring" cleaning). I usually go through my clothes and give away stuff I haven't worn. My rule is if I haven't worn it in the past year, I'm not going to wear it again. I donate it to Mission Arlington. I might try and tackle my hall closet (it's a disaster area). If you never hear from me again, it means I got lost in the mess! EEK!

5. What is the best book you've ever read?
Oh wow. I don't think I could pick just one. I read such a wide variety of books (non fiction, fiction, etc). To be on the safe side, I'm going to say the Bible!!: ) Although To Kill A Mockingbird is probably my favorite fiction book!

Go visit For The Love of Blogs and make a new friend (or two) today!! :)

I hope everyone has a great weekend! After I finish cleaning, I plan on watching the Star Wars trilogy (the old one). I've been wanting the DVDs for a while, I just have never bought them. Someone gave me the complete DVD set yesterday! Wahoo! Yes, I'm a Star Wars nerd (but just on the old ones. I didn't really like the news ones too much).

Greatest Star Wars scene! :)

Of course, this now makes the kiss between Luke and Leia REALLY creepy...

May the force be with you sweet friends!!

XOXO!!

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

First of all, I had to post this video. I posted it on Twitter the other day. I swear this kid could be my nephew Andrew. He LOVES Star Wars!!

My nephew- Darth Andrew
Rachel's Log: Day 4
So yesterday the weathermen kept telling us we would have a light "dusting" of snow. Possibly 1-2 inches in some areas. The snow was suppose to start sometime after midnight. About 10 last night I looked out the window and saw snow already starting to fall. Something woke me up about 12:30 (I would later realize it was my neighbors going in and out of their front door). I looked out to see what was going on and they were taking pictures in the snow. The ground was completely covered at that point. I woke up about 6 and called the  office's bad weather hotline- we were closed for the third time this week! Yeah snow day! At last check, we had about 5-6 inches of snow on the ground. The snow was suppose to stop by late morning, but it's almost 1:30 and it's still coming down at a pretty good pace.

I have been out of Dr Pepper since Tuesday and am trying to work up the nerve to either drive or walk to the gas station next door to my apartment (well, it's about a half a block down the road). I'm telling you, cabin fever has taken over!!

So, anyways, thought I would share a few pictures of my snow day.

My truck covered in snow.

Looking cute in the snow!

The pool has frozen over!

I uploaded more pictures on my blog's Facebook page. Go here to see them!

Go check out For the Love of Blogs and meet some new friends!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

XOXO!

Happy Friday to all!

Oh so much to get to in this post. First of all, if you are a regular reader of my blog, you might notice that it got a makeover. Yeah, I got bored last night, so I decided to try a new look! I would like to thank my wonderful friends at For The Love of Blogs for the awesome tutorial on how to make a new header/title. If you are interested in learning for yourself, check out the post here. Also, if you are looking to meet new friends, head over there and sign up for Fab Friends Friday!

As I sit here typing this (it's after midnight- oh the joys of not being able to sleep), I'm realizing that today, January 28, 2011, marks the 25th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. Last year I posted a story about that day, go here for that post. I didn't post any pictures or videos of the Challenger (but I did post the picture of my 2nd grade class- we were watching it live on TV when it exploded). I want to take a moment to remember the seven crew members who lost their lives that day. Rest in peace.

Okay, sorry to bring you down on a Friday, I'll try to make the rest of the post happier!

1. If you had a $1,000 to donate to a charity, which would you choose?
I've mentioned before that C.J. Wilson has a children's charity (and no, I'm not just picking it because of him). I would want to donate to any charity that helps children. For more on C.J.'s charity, go here. It really is for a good cause! Here is a video one of the local children's hospitals did on him.

2. Snow days: Do you welcome them happily or are they a pain in your butt?
We don't get many snow days here in my part of Texas, so when it does snow, I welcome it happily. If it snows a lot and sticks (or if there is more than half an inch of ice on the road), the town pretty much shuts down and we all get a snow/ice day. Yeah, we can't drive on ice here, don't even ask us to! Usually when it snows it won't be cold enough to stick (because our weather is constantly changing). For instance, here is our 7-day forecast. Please don't hate me because it will be 70 today and tomorrow. Another cold front is headed our way and they are saying sleet/snow on Tuesday night. Since it's been so warm, it probably won't do much damage (although those might be famous last words). But temperature wise, Wednesday will NOT be a good day for me! Brrr!! My poor Texas body can't handle that!!

3. What talent do you wish you had and why?
I wish I could sing. My sisters both got the musical talent in the family (one of my sisters even recorded a CD last year). I can't carry a tune in a bucket (part of it is probably because I'm deaf in one ear). But yeah, I would love to be able to sing and not cause people to wince in pain. :)

4. Are you a news, politics, or celebrity junkie?
I don't go out of my way to find "celebrity gossip" but if I come across it, I might read it (meaning if I find an article online, I don't buy any of the gossip magazines). If you know me at all, you know that I don't get involved in politics or political talks. I don't like to discuss it. I respect what your political beliefs are, just like I hope you will respect what mine are. So yeah, if you like talking politics, I'm not the person to go to! :) And I know this will be a big shock to you, but I'm really a sports junkie more than anything. I know, I know, big surprise. I listen to sports talk radio a lot. In the mornings I listen to the local ESPN radio (for anyone in the Dallas area, it's 103.3FM). There are these two guys named Ben and Skin that do the morning show. I love them! They make me laugh! :) If you ever want to listen, they stream their show online! 9am-noon, Texas time (Central Standard time).

5. What is your favorite "cocktail"? (Are you a beer person, a kiddie cocktail junkie, or perhaps you're more the Cosmo kind?) Anything flies...doesn't have to be alcoholic.
Well, I don't drink beer or cocktails, so I guess I would choose a Dr Pepper Slurpee (can that count as a "cocktail"?) Um...Slurpee. I haven't had one of those in a long time! Since it will be "warm" today I may get one on my way home! :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I am looking forward to a little rest and relaxation. The past four weekends I've been busy from Friday afternoon until Sunday night. I'm looking forward to catching up on some DVR watching and renting some movie online from Netflix. I am going to do my best to finally watch Inception!

XOXO!

It's Friday! Can I Get an Amen?

First of all, I wanted to let y'all know I created a "fan" page for my blog on Facebook. If you are interested in "liking" it, please go here (or search Randomness With Rachel). For those of you who have asked, if you "like" my page, I cannot see the information on your profile (unless you don't have it set to private).

Second of all, can I just say I'm so glad it's Friday. Good grief, what a week. I'm too excited that it's Friday to go into all the gory details of my week, but man, I'm glad it's the weekend. Do you have big plans? Anyone who lives in the Dallas area knows where I'll be this weekend: Rangers Fanfest. Oh yes my friends. Baseball season is around the corner (okay, it's still 70 days away-but it's getting closer). If you want to read of my adventures at last year's Fanfest, go here. You can bet that next week I will bore enlighten thrill bombard you with my adventures of Fanfest this year. It's supposed to be bigger and better. Wahoo!!

1. Where did you meet your spouse...
Okay, I'm not even writing that whole question out. I have yet to meet him. Although I'm 81.4 percent sure that Zachary Levi (from Chuck) is my soul mate (I have mentioned this on my blog before, many times in fact). ;)

He's so adorkable!

2. What is your favorite room in your house?
Probably my loft. I have a two story apartment. I have an upstairs room that I use as my sports memorabilia/craft room/storage for my rarely used pilates equipment. I love it! Yes, I know, I have a lot of Spurs stuff. I have mentioned before that I use to live in San Antonio. I also grew up hearing my dad and brothers cheer for them (my folks are from San Antonio). Don't worry Mavs friends, I like the Mavs too (even though I've been told that is a NBA sin- whatever!) ;)

3. Can you wiggle your ears?
Um, no. Can you?

4. What is your evening ritual?
It all depends on if I go out after work. The one thing that stays the same is that right before I got to bed, I wash my face, brush my teeth, read my Bible and then put in my mouth guard. Yeah, I grind my teeth in my sleep. My dentist has been yelling at me to make sure I wear my mouth guard at night. Can I just say it's the most unattractive thing ever? No, I won't take a picture of me wearing it! This is as close as you'll get!

5. How many hours of sleep do you need a night to function?
I aim for 8, but that rarely happens. I try and get anywhere from 6-7 hours, but that's only on a good night. I have had sleeping issues my whole life where I wake up during the night A LOT. Let's just say I'm very familiar with what is on TV between the hours of 2-6am. :(

And lastly, yesterday I received a Christmas present in the mail from my sweet friend Jillana. I LOVE this. I think I'm going to keep it out all year long!! :)

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Take some time and head over to For The Love of Blogs and meet some new friends today!!
