Blog Challenge Day 29 AND my 101 in 1001 Final Update

Blog Challenge Day 29: Share 10 interesting facts about yourself.

I really don't think I'm all that interesting, but here ya go. I know, some of these are repeats (but if you are new to my blog, then these will be new facts for you).

1. I don't like my food touching. Honestly, I'm getting a little better about it. But still, if my green bean juice starts to run into my mashed potatoes or meat, I have issues. At Thanksgiving we get the plastic plates with dividers just for me.
This is my favorite kind of plate. Each food has its own place. No need for anything to touch.
2. I was the only child in my family (out of six) to attend elementary school, middle school, and high school in the same town. When my siblings were younger, my family moved around a lot. I lived in Austin from age five to eighteen.

3. I don't like Starbucks. Granted, I don't like any kind of coffee, but I don't really care for any drinks from there.

4. I want to play a dead body on CSI (or any crime show for that matter). I can't act, but I think I could pull off playing a dead body. I think it would be cool to be on set of a TV show for a day, just to see what's it's like! I was an extra in a movie once, and it was a lot of fun! FYI, the movie hasn't been released yet, BUT if it ever is, I'll let y'all know the name. I was an extra in a scene for a baseball game, a parade, and town hall meeting.

5. I'm in the process of trying to write a novel. I've been in the process for many years now, I can't decide what I want to happen. If I ever finish it, I'll let y'all know.

6. I don't eat cake or pie. I know, I know, people always give me a weird look when I say that. I guess I COULD eat it, I just don't. It's not my thing.

True story.
7. I am a wannabe tornado chaser. Whenever there is a tornado warning, my friends are always texting me to make sure I'm at home and not out chasing it. I would never chase it on my own, but I would love to tag along with a professional tornado chaser. Tornadoes have always fascinated me. I know, I know, they can do a lot of damage, I wish tornadoes only touched down in empty fields and never hurt anyone. But still, I can't get over my fascination of them.

8. I'm a chocolate milk snob. I don't like regular milk, I'll only drink chocolate milk. And it has to be made with Nestle's Quik, I'm sorry, Nesquik, powder (no syrup). And don't even try giving me an imitation brand, I won't drink it.

I'm serious about my Nesquik.
 9. My hair is naturally curly (well, really wavy), but 95% of the time, I straighten it.

10. I despise the game of Monopoly. I don't really care for board games in general (having A.D.D. makes it hard to focus), but Monopoly is one I refuse to play, don't even ask me.

It's hard to believe it, but it's been 1001 days since I started my 101 in 1001 day challenge. I failed so miserably at it! Well, I got a lot of it done, but not everything. As promised, I'm donating $1 to the Special Olympics for everything I didn't complete. In the next week or so, I'll make up another 101 in 1001 that I'll try and complete. I did start on some of them, but didn't totally complete it, so I guess that is considered a "fail". For those who are new, here was my list.

-Still didn't make it to Cooperstown. Soon, I'm telling you, soon.
-I only made it to one new MLB ballpark in the last three years, that's upsetting. It's gonna take me FOREVER to see all of the ballparks and stadiums at this rate.

-Still haven't made it out to California, I'm hoping to make a trip out there next summer, Hollywood will be on my list!
-I only made it to ONE National Park in the past three years, and it was one I had visited as a kid. I really need to travel more.
-Still didn't go snorkeling. :(
-Sadly the one time I was in San Antonio during basketball season, the Spurs were on the road (I'm sorry Mavs friends, my folks are from San Antonio, three guesses which team I grew up cheering for).

-Now that I live closer to my friend, I MIGHT go to one of these workout dance classes of hers. I'm still hesitant about it.
-Okay, there is a place near me that offers dance lessons on Friday nights. I WILL go one of these days, probably after baseball season when my life settles down some.

-I tried Jane Eyre yet again. ONE of these days I'll finish it.
-I suck, a quiet time is something I should do EVERY day. I'm ashamed I couldn't even have one three months in a row.
-I still need to go to the Dallas Museum of Art and just take my time walking around. It seems when I go, I'm with friends, and we are on a time schedule.
-I only completed one Bible study course. Again, I suck. :(
-I can't seem to watch "top quality" movies, I watch crap "B" movies on Netflix. I will make it through this list. If I have to force myself to spend a weekend or two doing it!
-Again, with my love of reading you would think I would have read at least ONE book on this list. I'm so ashamed.
-Again, I'm ashamed to admit I didn't keep up with my prayer journal. Something else I need to work on.
-I made it to an opera, but not a symphony. Maybe I'll find one at Christmas to go to, I love hearing Christmas music!
-Yeah, I think I wrote ONE book review, and it wasn't even a book from the banned book list. Good grief. I failed so bad in this category!

It's OK...

It's OK...

...that I have been in an "off" mood most of this week. BUT, it's almost Friday, I'm ready to put this week behind me and have a relaxing weekend of doing absolutely nothing (except going to church and my friend's Super Bowl party on Sunday).

...that I'm UBER excited about my trip to Boston in June to see my friend Jodi! We've been talking about this trip for months and it's finally all planned out!
Me and Jodi at our friend Katie's wedding last year
...that I'm possibly even MORE uber excited that while I'm in Boston NOT ONLY will we be seeing these guys in concert...
Oh yes, our tickets are bought, be jealous...
...BUT, I'm finally going to get to see a baseball game at Fenway Park. AND it just so happens MY TEXAS RANGERS will be in Boston at the same time I will be there. It's like they planned it just for me. Thank you Nolan for making that possible (I just assume he had something to do with it, since I'm such a big Rangers fan and all). :)
I can soon mark Fenway Park off my list of baseball ballparks to see in person!
...that I'm taking time to wish Nolan Ryan a happy birthday on my blog. Happy 66th Nolan!!
Me shaking hands with Nolan at FanFest last year. We are practically BFFs.
...that I may or may not be watching My So-Called Life on Netflix streaming. Don't judge.

...that I wish Jared Leto still looked like this...
...and not this...

...that I'm really excited about these upcoming concerts coming to Dallas. Who wants to go with me to any of these shows?

...that I had no clue that Channel 8 weatherman Pete Doofus Delkus played baseball back in the day.
You learn something new everyday!
What's OK with you today??

XOXO!

My Trip to Blue Bell Country...

I know, I know. I'm slacking with my blog posts again. Is there any way we could add like two more hours to the day so I have time to blog? Since we "fell back" with the time change, by the time I get home from work it's already dark. Am I the only person who is all of a sudden worthless after 7pm? I'm exhausted by then.

A few weeks ago I went out of town to Brenham (home of Blue Bell ice cream) and attended my nephew Jake's senior night football game. His team's win that night made them the district champions! My folks and both of my sisters were there. My nephew James (Jake's brother) made the trip from Texas Tech to support his brother, and my niece Alice brought her two boys, my great-nephews C and E.

Before the game all the seniors were introduced with their parents. My brother-in-law passed away in 1999, so James helped my sister Mary escort Jake out when his name was called.
My sister with her two boys. Their height comes from their dad's side of the family. :)
I don't believe C and E had ever been to a football game, so this was a new experience for them. C loved it and loved cheering with the crowd. E thought that Aunt Rachel cheered too loud (this may or may not be true. Okay, yeah, it's true. My family gets VERY animated during sporting events). :)

High school playoffs start this week- go Cubs! :)
Left: Me and my sister Mary; top right: Before the game with my nephews James and E; bottom right: me and my niece Alice. We are about six years apart in age, and our whole lives people have thought we are sisters. We are very close, so we practically are! :)
After the game, Jake took time for pictures with his grandparents and his favorite aunt!
Me with my beautiful sisters Mary and Martha. Yes, we have very Biblical names!
Brenham Cubs-District champs! I believe these are the seniors on the team. Jake is on the back row to the right (#10).
While I was in Brenham, I FINALLY made it to the Blue Bell Factory! (I can mark that off my 101 in 1001 list!) They don't have tours on Saturdays, but the gift shop and ice cream parlor portion is still open. They do show a video in the parlor area which basically shows everything you would see on the tour. Honestly, I just wanted the Blue Bell, I was okay with no tour. :)
About to enter "The Promised Land".
Blue Bell Country!
I learned that Blue Bell employees get ALL THE BLUE BELL THEY CAN EAT in their break room. FOR FREE. I think I would weigh 600 pounds if I worked there. I guess they take their motto of "We eat all we can, and we sell the rest" VERY seriously!! :)
Me and Mary rocking our Blue Bell hats!
While I was visiting, we walked around Brenham for a while. It is a cute little town (well, little compared to Dallas). There are a lot of shops in the downtown area, including some antique shops (which I love). If you ever find yourself in Brenham, I recommend taking the time to walk around. The residents are super nice, and you can pretty much find Blue Bell ice cream anywhere! :)

I like to think this sign is on the gates to heaven.

I made a new friend at one of the furniture stores in town...
There were hand towels in a booth that was set up in one of the shops. I liked these the best.
Oh, since I am talking about nephews in the playoffs, I have to give a quick shout out and good luck wish to my nephew Peter, who is also a senior. His football team is in the playoffs this weekend too!! Go Cougars! Thankfully Jake and Peter's schools are in different divisions, so they wouldn't end up playing each other in any games during the playoffs. There will be peace in the family! :)

Peter after his last home game of the regular season.
Hope everyone is doing well!! I'm trying to catch up on all my blog commenting (sometimes I have a bad habit of reading, but not leaving a comment). I'm still reading your blogs though!! :)

XOXO!

DID YOU MISS ME??

No need to adjust your computer/phone screens, you are seeing what you think you are seeing- I'm actually posting on my blog! I hate that it's been so long. I've missed y'all. I could bore you with the details to explain my absence, but I won't. The "Cliffs Notes" version is that a lot has been going on at work and in my personal life, so blogging has taken a backseat. I hope to be back to posting on a regular semi-regular basis now!

I thought I would catch y'all up with a Thursday 13:

13 things I've been doing since I last blogged
(which was in August. Sheesh- where did September go??!)

1. I hung out with Al Capone. Okay, not really (duh-he's dead), but some friends and I went on vacation to Memphis and made a detour through Hot Springs, Arkansas where we visited the Gangster Museum of America. This is really a must see if you visit Hot Springs, it was so interesting! After the tour, we even got to hold a replica of Al Capone's gun (that sucker was heavy, I'm used to a Glock 19 myself). ;)
Chillin' with Al Capone
Say hello to my little friend...
More of our Hot Springs adventures (we got there late in the day so we only had time to tour a bath house and the gangster museum).
2. I FINALLY made it to Graceland!! This was the main reason my friends Aaron, Mel, Monica, and I made the seven hour drive from Dallas to Memphis. It was awesome. The tour was cool. They gave you an audio guide so you could go through at your own pace. If you go visit, I recommend getting there first thing in the morning. We got there at 9am (when it opened) and there were already a lot of people. It just got more crowded as the day went on. You can only tour the first floor (the second floor is roped off out of respect and privacy for the Presley family), but it was still cool. I'm only going to post a few pictures here. I took about 1500 of my whole Memphis weekend trip (sadly, I'm not lying). If I upload any to my blog's Facebook page later on, I'll post a link.
I loved that Elvis had a pink Cadillac. I wonder if he sold Mary Kay?? :)
What can I say? I'm a rebel (and don't follow orders well). :)
3. I stood on the exact spot where Elvis was standing while recording songs. Well, at least according to the guide at Sun Studios. :) It was still cool to think that at one time Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis were all in this exact room just hanging out.

4. I learned how to make a guitar. Well, I took a tour at the Gibson Guitar Factory in Memphis and I know the process they follow. It takes three weeks just to make one guitar. We couldn't take pictures inside on the actual tour, only in the lobby and in the gift shop.

My group looking awesome wearing the safety glasses required for the tour. I really liked that blue guitar so I snapped a picture of it. It cost about six grand so I decided NOT to buy it. :)
5. I met a man named Smokey on Beale St. while in Memphis. He worked at this record store my friends and I went into. He was so sweet and very funny. He hugged all of us and kept calling us "visions of beauty". I think he danced with my friend Mel at one point. He was so honored we wanted to take a picture with him!

6. I successfully completed a project I discovered on Pinterest. My nephew's fiancee is a first year teacher and I made this little "survival kit" for her. To see details on how to make it, click here for the Pinterest link. BTW, I mailed it to her and she loved it. :)

Teacher Survival Kit
7. I thoroughly cleaned my apartment (and got rid of about 7 boxes of clothes and unwanted items). I don't have a before picture (trust me, it was bad), but here is the after picture of my living room (taken from the upstairs loft).

8. I tried not to sink into a deep depression after the Rangers lost the AL West title. They still have a chance of being a wild card team if they can win tomorrow, but honestly, they've been playing like crap. I'm not getting my hopes up too high, BUT REGARDLESS, I still love my guys. Some of them a little more than others. We've been spoiled the past two years. I know they can't make the postseason EVERY year. I'm still a little sad though.
Remembering the good times with the Rangers this year...
9. I went to my nephew Peter's high school football game. It was a great game, they won 55-14. Go Cougars!!
Friday Night Lights.
Aunt Rachel's star athlete!
10. I was super excited to receive gifts from my friend Harrie. She used to live in London and bought me these during the Summer Olympics. I love them!!

11. I went to a Cowboys game at Jonestown (AKA, Cowboys Stadium). The game wasn't that good, but I had fun hanging out with my friends!

A view from our seats and hanging out with my friend Michael before the game!
My buddy Brian flew down from New York for the game (although I think he really flew down here because I lost a bet and owed him a steak dinner- which I paid for). Regardless of the terrible outcome of the game, we still had a good visit- it was fun!
12. I once again attempted to break up with Tony Romo after his less than stellar performance during the Cowboys/Bears game. I will never learn, this man is always going to break my heart. Sports are always going to break my heart. I tried to tell a friend I was giving up on sports, but he assured me it was an empty threat on my part (he was right). Why can't I be a normal girl who drinks wine and gets emotionally involved in shows like The Bachelor and Grey's Anatomy (BTW, no offense to any of you who watch those shows. I have good friends who love them!) :)
My Facebook status after the game. Yes, I am fully aware that I am a nerd. :)
13. I had a little too much fun on PicMonkey.com with their Halloween special effects. Seriously, it's addicting, y'all should check it out! You can upload pictures and create special effects (right now they have a lot of Halloween effects). Check it out here.

That should catch you up for the most part on what's been going on. I really hope to get back to regular posting. Thank you for all the sweet emails, tweets, and texts asking if I was still doing a blog. It's good to know I was missed. Love y'all!!

XOXO!!

I'm Alive!

I'm alive...barely. I can't even begin to describe how busy I was last week (all work related). I promise to catch up on all of your blog posts at some point this week (although it's looking like this week is going to be just as busy). :/ I just wanted to post something real quick so you knew I was alive!

Here is a recap in pictures on what I've been up to when I'm not screaming obscenities crying into a pint of Blue Bell pulling my hair out at my office.
Bought some new Rangers sweat pants (well, they are sweat capris actually).
After a Twitter post on Monday that I was on the verge of crying, my friend Monica sent me a text with this picture of my "god-bird" Kappy. She's a sweet bird, except when she jumps on Aunt Rachel's head. This picture did make me smile though!
Even though work was awful, I still managed to workout when I got home. I couldn't find a pair of socks one day, so I pulled out my gym socks from junior high. Yes, I still have them, and yes, I can still wear them. Sad I know. But I was looking pretty cute sporting the high socks!
My friend Laura and I went to a Dallas Baptist University baseball game last week. It was fun! The best part was when the sprinklers came on during the middle of the game.
Went to Chick Fil-A on Friday with my friend Aimee. The sunset was so pretty that I had to take a pic!
Some friends and I went to the Kimbell Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum in Fort Worth on Saturday. This statue is outside the Kimbell and Aaron and I were trying to figure out what it was. We all loved the Impressionism exhibit that was inside! It's here through June- I recommend going to see it! No cameras are allowed in the Kimbell so sadly I didn't get any pictures. But I was excited to see some Monet and Renoir pieces live and in person!
I can't say that we appreciated the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum as much as the Kimbell (but the Modern was a museum in DFW I had never been to, so I can update my 101 in 1001 list with that!) This was one of the pieces of art in the modern museum. It looks like something my 2 year old nephew E could do.
Here Aaron and I are trying to figure out what we are looking at (it was a ladder that went from the ground to the ceiling.) I think we missed what the meaning of the piece was. I personally think the artist wasn't hugged enough as a child, but that is just my opinion.
Every time a bell rings, an angel gets her wings...
Now Andy Warhol I can appreciate. At least I know I'm looking at a painting of Marilyn Monroe.
There was a sign that said not to take a picture of this piece, so of course, I found that as a challenge (I know, I know, I'm a rebel). I was sneaky in how I was holding my phone so I could snap a picture. There were museum employees everywhere watching our every move (I'm honestly surprised we didn't get kicked out!)
No, a light fixture didn't fall. this is art. I'm serious. A light plugged into a wall socket is art. I don't get. I just don't get it.
We ate a late lunch at the Love Shack, they have awesome burgers. And it was a restaurant I had never been to before so that is another thing I can update my 101 in 1001 list with!
We ended our fun-filled day by seeing The Avengers. AWESOME movie. I highly recommend it! I may go see it again!
For you ladies who don't like action/comic book movies, maybe this will help persuade you to see the movie: Captain America and Thor. But I honestly would have liked it even if these guys weren't in it! :)
Me and my buddies! Mel was so busy taking pictures I think this is one of the few that she's actually in. We had reserved tickets for the movie (at the Studio Movie Grill), so we didn't have to stand in the long line. We just waited until they called us up. I must say, that is the way to go on Opening Weekend of a popular movie!

I hope everyone is doing well and again, I will be reading your blog posts soon! I promise!
XOXO!
